No, I’m pretty sure it’s for the money.

They say that at a certain level the money isn’t the primary driver for a persons career choice, rather its the fulfill ment of goals and personal meaning . I’m fairly confident Im at least one order of magnitude away from that level.

The kind of company that probably spends as much money convincing its employees to stick around as it does convincing others to use our services haha

Sometimes when I need to get the hell out of the house, I go grab lunch at a place with a ton of office buildings around. And everytime I think, man, maybe I should go back to working now that the kids are a bit older and the wife’s job doesn’t have so much travel, cause six figures for doing pretty much nothing was a sweet deal .

And then I overhear someone have a 20 min talk -at lunch - about so-and-so’s “human potential, ” and I’m like @#$# that shit.

Same here. Working remotely, the money is better than I can get locally because I’m working f or a company 300 miles away in a very competitive labor market. They’re blissfully unaware that they overpay for labor, but I’m not raising my hand. I’m just saying I’ve seen better work product from people paid half as much and with half the ego. Large companies often fall into this trap and fail to be able to find talent without assuming it costs a fortune.

I wouldn’t do my job if my pay was 5% lower, or if I had to commute to an office. So I guess I’m on the edge. My fulfillment is being at home ;)

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Unless it’s free food including free unlimited Bubble Tea, Free Booze and 100% match on 401K contributions up till 15% plus 30 paid vacation days every year, it’s not going to convince me.

Free lunch is common, we’ve got free coffee, every Friday there is a happy hour somewhere in the office, 401k match is pretty shit but there is still a pension , you do get 30 days PTO but finding time to take it though is a different thing though...

But there is a reason they go through the trouble of providing all these perks...

Let me tell you what I have now- 18 days PTO, I got one day extra last year only for “5 years of service”, YAY! No happy hours on company dime, no free any food, free coffee but I don’t drink it, 40% match up to 6%.

Why do I stay? I can be on Oppo  4 6 8 hours a day, office is barely 5 miles from home, 8 to 5 strictly, and the client is great and I actually like the job. Wish the pay was better though.

Dang, I got 5 days extra PTO after 5 years. Pretty nice, but the next bump doesn’t happen until the 15 year mark.

I tell my coworkers, “ I like you guys and all, but if they didn’t pay me I wouldn’t be coming here just to hang out with you. ”

Well, I suppose that the paycheck isn’t the only reason to go to work in the morning. There’s also... umm...

Oh fuck it, yes it is.

If work was that great, they wouldn’t need to pay you to do it.

Find a job you can tolerate, that pays as much as possible. Never stop looking for something new, that you can also tolerate, that will pay more.

Remember, your employer can potentially fire or lay you off tomorrow without hesitation. Take the same attitude towards them.

Money is literally the only reason I go to work everyday, my employer and I have an understanding - I keep making money for them, and they keep paying me. Neither of us is under any other delusion.
